Marijuana Odor Leads To Arrest of Two Women, 19

WESTWOOD, N.J.—An officer patrolling Old Hook Road on Oct. 8 at 11:30 p.m. pulled over a black Ford for a motor vehicle violation. As he  officer approached from the passenger side, he reports, he detected an odor of marijuana.

He asked the driver to produce her license, registration, and insurance. The vehicle also contained a front passenger and two rear passengers.

After the driver stepped out of the vehicle, upon further investigation the officer retrieved from the center console a “one-hitter” device with suspected marijuana inside. 

After the front passenger stepped out, officers examined her backpack and found a bubbler and a grinder, both with suspected marijuana inside. Neither back seat passenger was found to have marijuana. 

The driver, 19, of Ridgefield Park, and the front-seat passenger, 19, of Lodi, were placed under arrest and brought to police headquarters.

The driver was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructed view, and possession of controlled dangerous substances in a motor vehicle, and summonses for a probationary license passenger restriction and a probationary license hours of operation violation. 

Both were released on their own recognizance and given court dates.

Poor driving draws police stop; man arrested over THC in vape pen

WESTWOOD, N.J.—An officer patrolling Old Hook Road on Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. observed a white Hyundai heading east and moving quickly from the left lane to right lane. The Hyundai almost struck a vehicle, then went back over the double yellow line. 

The officer pulled the defendant over in a safe location on Old Hook Road, where he asked for credentials. The officer reports he noticed that the driver appeared to be shaking nervously. Then the officer noticed a vape cartridge with yellow liquid in plain view in a change holder below the center console.

Asked what was in the vape cartridge, the defendant said it was THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis). 

The defendant, 44, from Ridgewood, was placed under arrest and brought to headquarters for processing.
