MONTVALE—It’s the kind of validation and publicity most municipalities would dream of. Montvale has received more warm recognition from Business View Magazine, “a monthly digital magazine providing information and intelligence on key business sectors,” in a piece declaring the borough a best-managed city under population 10,000.
“We are honored to be recognized by Business View Magazine and named the best managed community in 2024,” Ghassali posted on Facebook on Oct. 29. “Kudos to all our volunteers, staff, boards and commissions, and first responders for making us stand out and be recognized.” This recognition reflects Montvale’s balance of small-town charm with modern amenities, a vision Ghassali and the borough’s team have worked to achieve, the publication notes, all within easy reach of New York City.
The feature, in quoting only Ghassali and his administrator, reads as a “State of the Borough” address, emphasizing Montvale’s “community-centered approach” and dedication to service. The piece calls out such local initiatives as:
- Community Spirit and Resident Engagement
Events such as “A Day in the Park” and the “Walk with the Mayor” initiative highlight Montvale’s sense of community, where residents can engage directly with local leadership. Ghassali’s hands-on approach to addressing residents’ concerns strengthens Montvale’s warm, accessible atmosphere—a quality Business View praised as rare in suburban communities. - Growing Business Opportunities
Montvale’s business landscape is thriving with new restaurants, retailers, and service providers. The borough’s streamlined zoning practices reflect this growth, making Montvale an appealing choice for new businesses. “We’re trying to make it easier for companies to move in, without having to go for variances or a lengthy process,” Ghassali explains. Borough Administrator Joe Voytus adds, “With the increase in population, there’s a demand for services,” noting plans to bring in data centers, banks, and other resources for residents. - Beautification and Historic Preservation
Beautification projects along Kinderkamack Road and plans to restore the historic Octagon House highlight Montvale’s attention to aesthetics and history, blending community improvements with preservation. The veterans banner program and revitalized parks are other steps aimed at creating a welcoming, visually appealing downtown. - Infrastructure Upgrades
With new water tanks for fire safety, increased gas line capacity, and collaboration with utility providers, Montvale ensures that its essential services keep pace with community growth, supporting both residents and future development. - The DiPiero Farm Project
The DiPiero Farm project showcases Montvale’s dedication to sustainability and community engagement, with plans for a pick-your-own strawberry field, a community garden, and a greenhouse for local students.
Reflecting on the promotion, Ghassali noted, “This kind of recognition is an honor for Montvale. It reflects our efforts to build a community that values growth without losing the warmth of small-town living.”
Residents such as Trevor Giesberg and Kristine Kremer Buonanno celebrated Ghassali’s post with comments like “That’s my Mayor!” and “Best Mayor Ever!” Others, such as Jen Trobe and Mike Furman, praised the mayor’s efforts to keep the community engaged and highlighted the teamwork of his staff. Carolee Adams extended congratulations to the entire council, staff, and residents, recognizing their role in attaining this spotlight. Expressions of pride like “Yay for Montvale!” and “This is awesome!” filled the comments
