Where to honor those hurt, lost, bereft on 16th anniversary of 9/11

We’ve rounded up the following area municipal memorial events for readers to note as we head into the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Sunday, Sept. 10

  • Tenafly, 6 p.m. on the Peace Plaza at Borough Hall.

Monday, Sept. 11

  • Closter, 8:30 a.m. at Remembrance Park, 9/11 Memorial at Cedar Lane and Harrington Avenue.
  • Bergen County, 4 p.m. at Bergen County 9/11 Monument in the Henry Hoebel Area of Overpeck County Park off Fort Lee Road in Leonia.
  • Englewood, 5 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, North Dean Street.
  • Township of Washington, 5 p.m. at Jack Woods Senior Center, Town Hall.
  • Demarest, 6:30 p.m. at the Duck Pond. Rain location: Borough Hall.
  • Haworth, 6:30 p.m. at the firehouse.
  • Park Ridge, 6:30 p.m., town center. This is a candlelight ceremony hosted by the mayor, the council, and American Legion Corporal Jedh C. Barker Post 153.
  • Woodcliff Lake, 7 p.m. at the Jack D’Ambrosi Sports Complex. In the event of rain, this will be held at the firehouse.
  • Hillsdale, 7:30 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial in Veterans Park, across from the train station. Candle lighting with six moments of silence for each of the planes crashing and the two towers falling. No speeches, just quiet contemplation and remembrance.
  • Montvale, 7:30 p.m. at Borough Hall, Memorial Drive.
  • River Vale, 7:30 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial Garden, near the River Vale Library, 412 Rivervale Road. In the event of rain, check rivervalenj.org.
  • Westwood, 8 p.m. at Veterans’ Park. Former Mayor Skip Kelley presides. Bring candles. Collection of songs and musical arrangements, no speeches.
