No Excuse, Says Officer Citing Elder For Whizzing Behind Library

PARK RIDGE, N.J.—Officers were dispatched to the rear of Borough Hall at 2:13 p.m. on Jan. 9 on a report of an elderly man wearing a green jacket, jeans, and black sneakers urinating in public.

On officers’ arrival, one witness showed them the urine-stained sidewalk along the rear of the library. Another showed them a picture of the suspect. One officer immediately identified him. The second witness said she saw him walk up to Park Avenue and head east.

Police went to the man’s condo and spoke with him there. Told the reason for the visit, the suspect, 74, admitted to urinating alongside the library. He said the bathrooms were locked and he did not want to urinate in his pants.

The police report reads in part, “I told [the defendant] that his behavior would not be tolerated, especially in a public location where there is much foot traffic.”

The defendant was served with a violation of disturbing or endangering public peace.
