MONTVALE — Someone who bought a Powerball ticket at the local Wegmans has an extraordinary piece of paper to keep safe.
A ticket sold at the supermarket at 100 Farm View won the $847 million jackpot in the Wednesday, Nov. 4, drawing, the New Jersey Lottery announced.
It was the only ticket to match all six numbers — 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56, with Powerball 21 — securing the ninth-largest jackpot in Powerball history.
The winner can choose an estimated $847 million annuity, paid in 30 increasing payments over 29 years, or a lump sum of $363.1 million. Both amounts are before taxes.
Wegmans will receive a $30,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. State Treasurer Aaron Binder and New Jersey Lottery Executive Director James Carey were scheduled to present the store with a ceremonial check and answer questions at a 2 p.m. press conference Thursday, Nov. 5.
The announcements did not identify the winner or say where the ticket holder lives. We certainly wish them well — and invite them to reach out to us for an interview.
