TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON––Following a delay local officials chalked up to glitches beyond their control, annual property tax bills are set to be mailed by Monday, Aug. 7, a week later than usual.
The grace period for paying them without accruing interest is extended to Aug. 31.
According to the tax collector, the 2017 tax rate is 2.325, up from the 2.309 rate set in 2016. This breaks down, per $100 of valuation, as county tax 0.261; open space tax 0.010; regional school tax 1.503; library tax 0.036; and local municipal tax 0.515.
The rate was delayed in the wake of the brief July state government shutdown and a readjustment of school aid figures.
Mayor Janet Sobkowicz had referred to these as glitches that would soon work themselves out.
