TENAFLY – Borough police captured two suspects they say followed a local family home from Empire City Casino in Yonkers, N.Y., then robbed them at gun-point in their Franklin Street driveway as they exited their car.

On July 25, the Tenafly Police Department announced the arrests of two suspects, Mario Delsaz and Brian Torres, of Bronx, N.Y., who are charged with the armed robbery. The incident took place on July 2 at 4:55 a.m., when two Hispanic men in their 20s, one displaying a black handgun, robbed the victims of about $3,000 in cash.

Tenafly Police Capt. Michael deMoncada said in a statement that borough police conducted an extremely thorough and labor intensive investigation working with several law enforcement agencies investigating whether the family was followed home from the casino.  “Detectives were able to develop several leads after viewing hours of security video footage provided by Empire City Casino security personnel,” said deMoncada. “[Investigators] were able to positively identify the [individuals] in connection to the Tenafly armed robbery and link them as suspects in several additional armed robberies of Empire City Casino patrons over the  course of several days in early July.”

Delsaz and Torres were arrested in New York and are currently awaiting extradition to New Jersey to face first degree armed robbery charges, deMoncada said.

He thanked officers from Empire City Casino security and detectives from Yonkers Police Department, New York City Police Department, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for assistance in identifying and locating these two individuals. Photo courtesy Tenafly Police Department
