WESTWOOD, N.J.—Residential areas on Fern Street and Fifth Avenue were subjected to a number of vehicular burglary attempts last night, the Westwood Police Department said.

Suspects wearing hoods were captured on surveillance video shared by the police department, which said two vehicles were also stolen from surrounding towns during the overnight hours of Nov. 21-22..

“Often times, criminal groups will target an area in which they steal cars and commit vehicle burglaries,” the police department said. “The Westwood Police Department encourages our residents to report any suspicious activity in a timely manner so that it can be investigated. These vehicle break ins are usually associated with other criminal activity.”

Police remind the community to be vigilant this coming holiday season.

“The Westwood Police Department would like to remind our residents to keep your vehicles locked, do not leave valuables inside your vehicle or in view from outside the car and please do not leave your key fobs or car keys inside your car. This will reduce the chances of you becoming a victim,” said police. “Unfortunately, this time of year often results in an uptick in property crimes.”
