EMERSON, N.J.— Families curious about honeybees and the vital work they do for the environment are invited to a special presentation at the Emerson Public Library on Wednesday, May 21, at 3:30 p.m.
The free, family-friendly event is hosted by the Emerson Environmental Committee and led by local backyard beekeeper Sean Flannelly, who, alongside his wife and committee member Megan Quigley, has been working to raise awareness around pollinators and sustainable living.
Flannelly, known to many through his @flannellyfarms Instagram account, plans to bring an observation hive, hands-on beekeeping props, and a set of kid-friendly teaching tools to create a fun and educational experience for all ages. The event will also include prizes for children, with a focus on interactivity and engagement.
“We want families to leave with a better understanding of how honeybees contribute to our everyday lives,” Flannelly said, “and how even small steps in our own yards and communities can help protect them.”
The session will explore the basics of beekeeping, pollination, and honey production, while also offering a glimpse into the joys and challenges of backyard hives. No registration is required.
The library is at 20 Palisade Ave., Emerson. For more information, email eec@emersonnj.org.
