Bergen County’s Star-Spangled Spectacular: A new tradition in the making

RIDGEFIELD PARK—This 4th of July, Bergen County will blaze a new tradition with its Star-Spangled Spectacular, a collaboration with the New Jersey Wind Symphony. The event promises to dazzle attendees at Overpeck County Park with a blend of music, festivities, and a fireworks finale over Overpeck Creek.

Last year’s “Pop Goes the 4th” set the bar high, featuring a thrilling rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” with live Howitzer cannon fire. This year, the county builds on that success by broadening the program to include performances by the New Jersey Youth Jazz Orchestra, Reggie Pittman, and notable recording artists like Leslie Mendelson, Jake Thistle, and Kristen Plumley.

  • 3 p.m. – New Jersey Youth Jazz Orchestra
  • 4:15 – Reggie Pittman band
  • 5 – Jake Thistle
  • 5:45 – Leslie Mendelson
  • 6:45 – Welcome/greetings
  • 7:20 – New Jersey Wind Symphony featuring Kristen Plumley
  • 9:30 – Fireworks show

In a press statement shared with Pascack Press, County Executive Jim Tedesco III expressed excitement about the burgeoning tradition: “We are setting the stage as we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It’s more than a celebration; it’s a commitment to our community and our nation’s history.”

Music Director Chris Wilhjelm shared his enthusiasm as well, saying, “Performing in Overpeck Park on the 4th of July honors our nation’s founding. We aim to make this an unforgettable experience that ignites the joy of Independence Day.”

The festivities will commence at 3 p.m. with various musical acts leading up to the symphony’s performance at 7:20. A meticulous dress rehearsal is scheduled for July 3, open to the public, sans the special effects.

Parking is available in locations around the park, with shuttle services provided to the Amphitheater. For those planning to attend, event updates can be found on the Bergen County Parks System’s social media or at www.BergenJuly4th.com.
