Betty Schaneen (nee Mandrick), 93, of Montvale, passed peacefully at her daughter Betty Jean’s home on June 12, 2018.
Her childhood was spent in Jersey City with her brother Joe and sisters Gladys and Bernice. She attended Dickinson High School and graduated at 16.
Formerly of Emerson, she resided with her beloved husband Halsey and children Scott and Betty Jean. She later moved to Ridgefield Park, where she loved her neighbors and was loved by them.
Prior to retirement, she was senior vice president of Allied Outdoor Advertising. In her earlier days, she expressed her creativity by designing and sewing doll clothes for FAO Schwarz in New York City.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Halsey, brother Joe, and sisters Gladys and Bernice.
She is survived by her son Scott and his wife Karin, daughter Betty Jean, and grandchildren Heather, Paige and Jesse, Hunter, and Harry. She recently has a nice visit with her son Scott and daughter-in-law Karin in Brick.
A loving lady who enjoyed her bus trips to Atlantic City, she is remembered for her ability to always finish a challenging crossword puzzle and to get the final “Jeopardy” question, her humor and storytelling, and for making her family help her complete her birthday scratch-offs.
She most loved catching up with her grandchildren over ice cream or tea, and will be missed by all.
Services are Thursday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at Becker Funeral Home, Westwood, N.J.
