CRESSKILL, N.J.—The Cresskill Mayor and Council dedicated a plaque at borough hall Dec. 4 honoring the late Vincent Salvatore, who served for 18 years as the borough’s attorney.
Members of Salvatore’s family joined the governing body in the unveiling which took place at a regular meeting of the mayor and council.
“We are here for a special occasion, and it is a sad one on my part,” Mayor Benedict Romeo said. “Tonight we are here to dedicate a plaque to my good friend Vincent Salvatore.”
Later Romeo reflected that he had worked with Salvatore since 1999 when Salvatore helped him on his first mayoral campaign. Salvatore served Cresskill as borough attorney from 2000 to 2018. Before that he served 10 years as the attorney to the board of adjustment.
“He meant the world to us,” the mayor said after the unveiling.
Romeo read the contents of the plaque to the assemblage at the meeting: “A beloved son of Cresskill, public servant and friend” were among the words inscribed in the memorial read by the mayor.
“Every time that I’ll look over at the plaque, I will remember him fondly,” Councilman Hector Olmo said.
The plaque is located in the council chambers, where it will remain forever, the mayor said.
