ENGLEWOOD, N.J.— Seniors from around southeastern Bergen County are invited to enjoy a day of nature, culture, and community on Wednesday, June 11, as Bergen Family Center hosts a fundraiser trip to the New York Botanical Garden and the Arthur Avenue Italian Market, with all proceeds supporting local senior programs.

The day begins with a garden party luncheon at 11:15 a.m., followed by bus pickup at 12:30 p.m. Participants will tour the gardens by tram, explore seasonal exhibits, and then head to Arthur Avenue for shopping and sightseeing. The group is expected to return to the Southeast Senior Center for Independent Living (SESCIL) in Englewood by approximately 6:30, depending on traffic.

The cost of the trip is $140, which includes lunch, admission, transportation, and the tram tour. A $25 deposit is required at in-person registration. To register, call 201-567-1495.

Proceeds from the trip will benefit SESCIL, a nonprofit based at the historic Lydecker Homestead, 228 Grand Ave. Founded in 1978 as a preventive health initiative and incorporated in 1992, SESCIL serves older adults in 11 towns across southeastern Bergen County. The center offers a wide range of health services, support groups, and enrichment programs for residents aged 55 and older.

Among the regular offerings weekly at SESCIL:

  • French with Mary Kay – Mondays at 12:30 p.m.
  • Restorative Yoga with Marcy – Mondays at 1:30 p.m.
  • Zumba with Lex – Tuesdays at noon
  • Spanish with Gladcia – Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to in-person offerings, Bergen Family Center has launched two new virtual caregiver support groups. The English-language group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., while the Spanish-language group meets on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Both are held via Zoom and are open to the public. Interested participants can contact Marcia Gongora at mgongora@bergenfamilycenter.org to register.
