HILLSDALE, N.J.—Zoltan Horvath III, a newly minted Marine, graduated from boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina on Aug. 16. He was home on a short leave last week before returning to training.
He was surrounded by his quadruplet siblings, older sister, and proud parents at the American Legion Post 162 of Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake and Old Tappan.
Horvath had the special honor of being sworn in and inducted into the American Legion by his father, Past Post Commander Zoltan Horvath II, who served on the Hillsdale Borough Council.
The family was presented with a Blue Star Banner by Past Commander George DeRosa and Past Commander Phil Langner.
The Blue Star Banner first appeared in 1917 when an Army captain who had two sons serving on the front line designed it as a tribute to their dedication and service.
The banner quickly became the unofficial symbol of a child in the service.
Today, families who have a loved one serving in the military display the Blue Star Banner in the inside front window of their homes to show the family’s pride and to remind others that “preserving America’s freedom demands much.”
