PASCACK VALLEY AREA, N.J.—Police in two local communities reported burglary attempts in recent days—and footage from 21st century home surveillance systems is helping investigators search for the suspect(s).
In Township of Washington, a would-be burglar at a Hampshire Road residence was captured on an Ring security camera on Nov. 21 at about 6:30 p.m. Detective Heather Castronova asked for anyone who recognizes the individual or has additional details to call her at (201) 664-1140.
Woodcliff Lake Police also delivered a Thanksgiving warning via Nixle, a community-messaging service.
“Attempted burglaries in the area the past few nights,” said Woodcliff Lake Police. “Please report anything suspicious. Keep lights on when not home.”
Woodcliff Lake Police said the suspect was a dark skinned male wearing all white, a black skull cap, and carrying two screwdrivers in back of his pants.
The suspect there was captured on an Arlo security camera. Police did not immediately disclose the time and place of the incident.
Woodcliff Lake Police Department told Pascack Press to speak to a detective, who was not immediately available to comment. Washington Township Police told Pascack Press Castronova was not immediately available to comment.
To our untrained eye, the suspect in both videos appears to bear a resemblance.
[UPDATE: Detective Sgt. Chad Malloy tells Pascack Press: “It’s definitely the same person.” He said both departments are working together, determining their next course of action and seeking any other available surveillance footage.]
Castronova emailed Pascack Press on Thanksgiving warning residents should take precautions.
“Police are urging residents to be diligent this holiday season by locking their homes, setting alarms, and leaving lights on both inside and outside of their homes,” she said. “Report any unusual people or activity in the neighborhood.”
