CLOSTER, N.J.––This year, borough residents can ditch the shore traffic and stay local for Labor Day.
The Closter Recreation Commission presents the 57th Annual Closter Labor Weekend celebration, with four days chock full of activities ranging from fireworks to field races. All events are held at Veteran’s Memorial Park, Harrington Avenue.
The schedule is as follows:
Friday, Sept. 1
• At 7 p.m., Closter Coaches Annual Picnic/Softball Game (for Closter coaches and families ONLY) at George Potterton Little League Field.
Saturday, Sept. 2
• During the day, catch the 20th Annual Four-Person Volleyball Tournament at 11 a.m. Teams can register for $20 by emailing closterrecjim@aol.com.
• In the evening, cool down with the The Waldwick Band performing a concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Closter Lions Bandshell at Memorial Park. The band’s repertoire includes orchestral transcriptions, music from Broadway stage and film scores, “big band” favorites, great marches and more.
Sunday, Sept 3
• The morning brings the Jim O’Halloran Memorial Kid’s Fun Run at 9.m., followed by the 36th Annual Dom Mircovich Memorial 5K Run/Walk at 9:30. • In the evening, families are invited for a Movie Under the Stars at 7:30 p.m., sponsored by Kings Food Markets. The film to be shown is the 2016 animated comedy “Sing” (PG). In the event of rain, the event will be moved indoors to the Tenakill Auditorium.
Monday, Sept 4 – Labor Day Celebration
• The festivities kick off at noon with a magic show. Starting at 1 p.m., there will be rides, kids’ field races, adult egg toss, recreation awards, a wet down, pony rides and more. Food throughout the day is provided by Fink’s BBQ Smokehouse.
• From 4-9 p.m., rock out with My Anxiety & The Willies, who will perform at the Closter Lions Bandshell
• FIREWORKS will light up the sky starting around 9 p.m.!
