TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON, N.J.—Colonial Boulevard will remain open to through traffic on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, with no planned street closure, the Police Department announced Oct. 15.
Police said additional officers may be assigned to patrol neighborhoods Halloween night to help keep trick-or-treaters and other residents safe.
The department encourages families to enjoy Halloween festivities but reminds parents and guardians to supervise children closely, particularly when crossing streets or walking near traffic.
Motorists should expect increased pedestrian activity throughout town and exercise extra caution, police said.
The department offered several safety reminders for families heading out to trick-or-treat:
- Have an adult inspect all candy before children eat it.
- Wear visible clothing or accessories so drivers can see trick-or-treaters.
- Use designated crosswalks when crossing streets.
- Stay on sidewalks whenever possible.
- Remain alert and aware of surroundings.
- Carry flashlights or glow sticks to improve visibility after dark.
- Never enter a stranger’s home or vehicle.
Police emphasized that Halloween safety is a shared responsibility among drivers, parents and children.
The department said its goal is to ensure that residents can enjoy the holiday while remaining safe on neighborhood streets.
