HARRINGTON PARK — The Community Church in Harrington Park will host a free concert, “Life Is a Song,” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at the church, 1 Spring St. A reception will follow in Founders’ Hall.
The performance will feature The Duo, with Amy Duran and Barbara Ciannella performing on two grand pianos.
Duran, a Northwestern University graduate, has performed and conducted across opera, Broadway and concert stages. She trained with the Zurich Opera Studio, performed with the Osnabrueck State Theater in Germany and later joined the conducting team for Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” in New York. She performs with the New York Festival Orchestra for Andrea Bocelli tours and spent 16 years working with the New Jersey City University Music Theatre Department. She also guest conducted the Baltimore Symphony in the premiere of “A Christmas Carol, the Concert,” later broadcast on PBS. Duran now serves as music director at the Community Church.
Ciannella is a collaborative pianist, vocal coach and teacher in the New York metropolitan area who has worked with artists from the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Juilliard School, New York City Ballet and Westchester Symphonic Winds. She has taught at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, since 2014 and is music director at Our Lady Mother of the Church in Woodcliff Lake. She previously served in church music roles in Norwood and Dumont.
She has performed internationally, including in Canada, Italy, Spain and China, and holds a degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and a diploma from the Alicia de Larrocha International Course in Spain.
The Community Church is a member of the Reformed Church in America, with the Rev. Zach Waldis as pastor.
