To the editor:
Emerson residents do not have to look very hard to realize that ever since Mayor Danielle DiPaola and councilmen Kenneth Hoffman and Brian Gordon came into office in January 2019, council meetings have become more civil and transparent, the borough’s operations have become more efficient, and progress continues to be made every day to preserve Emerson’s small town feel and character. It was not long ago when council meetings were hostile and antagonistic, and where decisions were made to the detriment of borough residents, especially the high density cluster-type housing plan that was approved by the prior administration over the vehement objection of then-Councilwoman DiPaola and many others in town.
That is all in the past now. Emerson residents will have an opportunity on Nov. 5 to elect two individuals to the borough council who are endorsed by Mayor DiPaola and councilmen Hoffman and Gordon and who share the same vision about fiscal responsibility and preserving Emerson’s small-town character.
Councilwoman Jill McGuire and Nicole Argenzia are seeking to continue the progress that has been made so far this year.
Councilwoman McGuire was unanimously elected by the council in January to fill the seat that was vacated by DiPaola when she became mayor. McGuire, along with DiPaola, were instrumental in getting the council meetings televised to promote transparency and so that residents can see their local government at work in the comfort of their own homes.
Nicole Argenzia is equally qualified to serve on the council since she is a nurse manager at Hackensack University Medical Center and has served on the Board of Health, the Ambulance Corps and as recreation coach for over a decade.
A vote for McGuire and Argenzia on election day is a vote for moving Emerson forward towards continued progress and away from the days of bickering, partisan politics, and forcing the borough and its residents into things it never wanted. McGuire and Argenzia, along with DiPaola, Hoffman and Gordon, will ensure that Emerson residents are well represented, that their tax dollars are wisely spent and Emerson remains that family-friendly town everyone has come to know.
