To the editor:
Residents of the Borough of Tenafly, on Nov. 5 we will cast our votes for the best qualified candidate for Mayor.
We want the Mayor to be our advocate, being very accessible; listening, understanding and communicating with us while concerns are presented and acted upon by the appropriate individual or department. If you read the job requirements for mayor, the person is required to run the council meetings, make certain appointments and vote in case of a council tie. Much different requirements for an ideal council candidate.
So—the ideal candidate for Mayor: Would provide us a current resume to prove he is the best candidate for the job. More than carrying out the required responsibilities, we want a proven demonstrated record, with referrals, that he has acted on our behalf. That he is constantly developing relationships with residents and borough personnel. He works to develop relationships with other towns’ leaders to discuss issues of shared services. Importantly—he will take that experience and expertise and use it for the betterment of our borough; not looking to seek other outside government positions.
Peter Rustin made promises to us 16 years ago when first elected as our Mayor. He said he would use his experience he has gained serving on the Tenafly Recreation Commission, as President of the Little League, President of Tenafly Youth Basketball, Vice President of Lions Club and two terms on the Tenafly Board of Education and work full time for the borough.
Peter is currently the vice-president of the Northern Valley Mayors Association, vice president of the Bergen County League of Municipalities and serves on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, and still works full time for the borough.
We deserve to have a passionate, proven advocate as mayor of Tenafly. His name is Peter Rustin.
