COMMUNITY VOICES: Will Back Closter Dems

To the editor:

Living in a town like Closter and having been a volunteer in so many capacities over the years including president of the Closter Board of Education and the Closter PTO, I know that our quality of life depends largely on the dedication and generosity of volunteers. In the 2019 election, we have an opportunity to bring back an experienced former council person and a her running mate with his refreshing new ideas and energy. Linda Albelli and Clifton Lewis are the Democratic candidates for Closter Council.

They are dedicated to changing the status quo in our local government by supporting traditional values with new and fresh perspectives. Emphasizing trust, transparency and integrity, Linda and Clifton, whose combined 86 years living in Closter is astounding, have focused on many issues that need our attention. When elected to the Council, they will work to guard against over-development that could negatively impact our quality of life; they will address parking issues in the downtown area where repairs to parking lots for shoppers have been needed for many years; they will advocate strongly for the Northern Valley Greenway Project to bring more recreational green space to the area; they will work to hold the line on property tax increases; and so much more.

Clifton’s professional skills in structured finance and underwriting credit risk will ensure that Closter taxpayer money continues to be spent wisely with transparency. He is a member of Bergen Grassroots, an organization dedicated to transparency in government. He attended Harvard College and has an MBA in Finance from the NYU Stern School of Business. Linda has supported the town well, including her two terms on the Council, where she served as Council President, the Police Committee, the Ambulance Corps, and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. She remains active as an honorary member of the Volunteer Ambulance Corps and is a member of the Closter Knickerbocker Hook and Ladder Ladies Auxiliary.

I urge everyone to vote blue on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and support the candidacy of Linda Albelli and Clifton Lewis.
