EMERSON, N.J.—The mayor and council honored Emerson Cavos basketball player John Dime and Coach John Ziemba at their work meeting on April 2.
They thanked Dime, an Emerson Jr./Sr. High School senior, for elevating the stature of the community through his skill and sportsmanship.
Dime was a three-year varsity basketball player and achieved an outstanding and historic milestone of 1,000 points with a high school career total of 1,377 points.
Mayor Danielle DiPaola read a proclamation lauding Dime as an outstanding leader and role model for all young basketball players and young people in Emerson and declared Wednesday, April 3, 2019 as John Dime Day in the Borough of Emerson.
Ziemba, head coach of the Emerson Cavos boys basketball team since 2014, was head coach at Passaic Valley High School from 1988 to 1991 and at Fort Lee High School from 1991 to 2014.
DiPaola, reading from Ziemba’s proclamation, noted that he achieved his 400th win on Jan. 29 and was inducted into the New Jersey State Coaches Hall of Fame on March 24 for his contributions with Fort Lee High School and Emerson High School Boys Basketball and Girls Volleyball.
She added that under his direction, Emerson High School Basketball “is and has been a model of excellence and consistency, and his basketball teams are exceptionally well prepared, coached, and disciplined, exhibiting the mental and physical toughness needed to remain poised, confident and adept under game-time pressure and adversity.”
Moreover, she said, Ziemba “has served with the greatest respect and highest regard from his players, colleagues and peers alike through his example of unsurpassed sportsmanship and leadership to the young athletes of Emerson.”
In light of these contributions to the community, it was the mayor’s clear delight in declaring Thursday, April 4, 2019 as Coach John Ziemba Day in the Borough of Emerson.
The next regular meeting/budget hearing of the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Emerson is Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Borough Hall, 1 Municipal Place.
