PARK RIDGE, N.J. —— The borough council on Dec. 12 introduced an amendment to an ordinance raising water rates 3 percent “to maintain the financial health of the water utility.”

With this change, if it passes second reading at the Dec. 26 council meeting, the average customer here and in Woodcliff Lake will see an increase of $3 in their water bill, officials said.
As well, the rates “will still be one-third lower than at Suez,” according to borough CFO Joseph Kolodziej.
Nobody from the public spoke on the proposal. Water rates were last increased in 2016.
In other action Dec. 12, the council:
• Resolved to purchase private flood insurance for the pistol range;
• Vacated a portion of Perry Street adjacent to Kinderkamack Road, re-conveying it to Park Ridge Transit, LLC;
• Agreed to award a contract for engineering services associated with the installation of a generator at police headquarters;
• Authorized a shared services agreement with Bergen County for health services for the Board of Health; and
• Fixed the salary of the acting municipal clerk.
