Broadway and Blanche Avenue were closed for two hours, said Federici. No one was injured, he said.

The Norwood incident on freight operator CSX’s line came two days after one of the company’s trains derailed in Union Township, snarling traffic but not causing any injuries, according to published reports.

Local residents have rallied against the transportation of crude oil by rail through local communities in recent months, seeking more transparency on the movement of potentially hazardous materials on local rail lines.
