CRESSKILL, N.J.—On Monday, Oct. 21, Board President Les Kaplan and the Cresskill Library Board voted to confirm and ratify the hiring of a new head librarian, and director of the 10 employees working at the Cresskill Library.

Laura Chumas comes to the position after 10 years of experience with the Allendale and Midland Park Libraries. She was confirmed unanimously.

“The board and I are extremely pleased with hiring an extremely well qualified and experienced person to help us lead Cresskill Library into the future,” Kaplan said.

Hiring a new head librarian is the latest action that the board has taken to upgrade and modernize the library. In recent years the board has developed a long-term capital maintenance plan, instituted rigorous financial controls to ensure fiscal responsibility, and maintained quality programming for the enjoyment of the public.
