Crisis Intervention at Rockefeller Lookout

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.—On Thursday, Oct. 24 at 4:25 a.m., the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police received a 911 transfer from the Englewood Cliffs Police Department reporting a possible emotionally disturbed male in the Rockefeller Lookout. The Rockefeller Lookout is a scenic overlook along the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the Englewood Cliffs section. The caller reported that a person appeared to be attempting to drive their vehicle over the cliff’s edge.

Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Headquarters was able to make contact subject directly via cellphone and the subject confirmed that he was in emotional distress. He also stated that he wished to be the victim of a fatal altercation with responding officers. 

Upon arrival, Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Officers located the vehicle in the parking area of the Rockefeller Lookout and made contact with the driver, a 29-year-old male from Bronx, N.Y.

Responding officers were able to safely take the man into protective custody without incident. The man was voluntarily committed to Bergen County Regional Medical Center. There were no injuries to anyone involved in this incident.
