Death under cliffs not believed to be suspicious: Palisades Interstate Parkway Police

FORT LEE––On Aug. 8, the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police received reports that a deceased body was found on the shore line of Hazards Ramp, south from and just under the George Washington Bridge, in Fort Lee. Police discovered the body of a white male lying face down along the shore.

Detectives and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene. Detectives were able to identify the victim as Douglas L. Grassey, a 61-year-old Allendale man.

On Aug. 14, the department said: “At this time the cause and manner of death involving Mr. Grassey is consistent with a departure from an elevated position such as a bridge or overpass. Currently investigators do not feel that the circumstances leading up to Mr. Grassey’s death are suspicious however the case is still open.”
