BERGEN COUNTY — In-person early voting for the Nov. 3 general election begins Saturday, Oct. 24, and continues through Sunday, Nov. 1, with 10 locations available across Bergen County.
The opening comes as thousands of residents have already voted by mail. In an outreach message issued ahead of early voting, the Bergen County Clerk’s Office reported that more than 29,000 voters had returned mail-in ballots and nearly 400 had visited the office to obtain ballots in person.
The county has added a 10th early-voting location this year, at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute in Mahwah.
Where to vote early
Early-voting hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Locations serving the Pascack and Northern valleys include:
- River Vale Community Center, 48 Greenhalgh Lane, River Vale.
- Tice Senior Center, 411 Chestnut Ridge Road, Woodcliff Lake.
Other sites are in Garfield, Hackensack, Mahwah, Paramus, Teaneck, Wood-Ridge and Wyckoff. The Paramus site is in the Technology Building at 400 Paramus Road, a building change for this election.
Consult the Bergen County Board of Elections’ complete location list before traveling. Registered voters may use an early-voting location within their county, rather than waiting to vote at their assigned Election Day polling place. State early-voting information.
Requesting or replacing a mail-in ballot
Tuesday, Oct. 27, is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot for delivery by mail. The Clerk’s Office says mailed and online applications are due that day. Voters can apply online or obtain a paper application through their municipal clerk.
After that deadline, voters may apply in person at the County Clerk’s Office until 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2. New Jersey’s election calendar lists the application deadlines.
The Clerk’s Office, at One Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack, offers ballot pickup weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. According to its outreach announcement, additional hours are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1.
Voters who have not received an expected ballot, or whose ballot is lost or damaged, can request a replacement from the County Clerk or call 201-336-7020.
Returning your ballot
Completed mail-in ballots may be returned by mail, deposited in an authorized ballot drop box or delivered to the county Board of Elections.
Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 3, and received by the Board of Elections by Nov. 9. Ballots delivered to a drop box or the Board of Elections must arrive by 8 p.m. Nov. 3. Mail-in ballots cannot be returned at an Election Day polling place. State ballot-return instructions.
Voters who have received a mail-in ballot but instead go to their polling place on Election Day will be limited to a paper provisional ballot, according to the state Division of Elections. Contact the Clerk’s Office about an outstanding mail ballot before heading to the polls.
Election Day
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polling places open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can look up their assigned polling place online.
