EMERSON—Emerson Junior High student actors and crew will bring the stage to life with “Romeo to Go,” Jonathan Rand’s quick-witted adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” on Nov. 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. This hourlong performance is a lively take on a classic, offering a fresh twist that’s sure to entertain.
The play’s premise is as unique as it is humorous: due to budget cuts, Drama One has been limited to a single session for the year. To top it off, the students must perform “Romeo and Juliet” for a school-wide assembly, condensing the famous tragedy into a tight 10-minute slot. Under the leadership of the dramatic and quirky Mrs. Gunnysack, the students put together the quickest and quirkiest version of the play imaginable, complete with a makeshift balcony, improvised swordfights, and even an Elizabethan hip-hop dance twist.
Tickets are $10 at the door for general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens.
