The Emerson Police Department’s Community Policing Unit has scheduled an overnight series of events that Emerson families will be able to enjoy through the last weekend of August, on the 26 and 27. The town’s Community Polcing Unit utilizes grant funds for summer celebrations, to give back to the town by mingling with residents in family-friendly ways.
This year, Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino gave a grant to the Emerson Police Department to honor the fallen state trooper, Detective Matthew L. Tarentino, in response to their exemplary display of community policing and the initiative to engage with the town over the weekend. The fun begins on Saturday at 4 p.m., at Hillman Field, with an open house, in which food and rides will be available for all who attend.
At 7 p.m., there will be a magic show, followed by an outdoor movie screening at 8 p.m., of a film that has yet to be declared. The organizers will set up a campsite for Saturday evening at Benkovic Field, in which Emerson residents are invited to spend the night under the stars, from 10 p.m. until 10 a.m. the following morning. There will be attractions including a movie, a video game truck, and a bonfire at night, not to mention a breakfast to wake up to on Sunday.
For the campout, Emerson residents are required to register at Police Headquarters before the event, by the Aug. 12 deadline.
