EMERSON, N.J.—A new digital message sign board should soon replace the former sign near the Kinderkamack Road railroad crossing, and borough staff will be trained on updating messages to keep residents apprised of local events and happenings, said the borough’s administrator.
Borough Administrator Michael Carelli told us that the foundation was recently poured, and the new sign will be installed, with landscaping, within a week.
At the June 9 meeting, Carelli said the digital sign was due for installation, which would include a concrete foundation. The sign’s purchase cost of $39,865 was originally authorized by council last June.
Last year, Mayor Danielle DiPaola said the borough had budgeted between $50,000 and $60,000 over the past few years for the upgrade. The new sign came in under budget, and delivery was expected within eight weeks. However, the installation was delayed.
In addition to a new digital sign, which will replace the prior sign in the same location, council approved a new “Welcome to Emerson” sign sponsorship program, setting sponsorship fees for a pedestal sign at $1,500 and for a larger sign at $4,500.
The sponsorship program will be officially announced in a few weeks, Carelli said, and sponsorship opportunities will be available then.
The council also approved an $11,000 contract for Neglia Engineering for engineering, construction management, and inspection services for the Emerson Senior Center ADA door improvement project. A breakdown shows $8,000 for construction management services; $2,500 for additional engineering services; and $500 for reimbursable expenses.
DiPaola reminded residents of Emerson’s 4th of July Patriotic Home Front Decorating Contest, which runs from May 22 through June 22. A winner will be announced June 23, DiPaola said. Prizes will be awarded at the July 14 council meeting.
