Englewood Health Department Issues Urgent Call For Social Distancing To Slow COVID-19 Spread

ENGLEWOOD, N.J.—The Englewood Department of Health has issued an urgent call to practice social distancing to decrease the rapid spread of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus spreading in Bergen County and throughout the world.

There are seven known positive cases of COVID-19 in Englewood, the health department said. There are likely more positive cases that have yet to be identified, it added.

“It is most urgent that your practice social distancing to decrease the rapid spread of the virus. Social distancing means that you should limit social contact with others, and if your must interact with people, maintain a distance of six feet,” the health department warned.

It added people should: 

• Work from home if possible;

• Cancelled friendly gatherings of children;

• Postpone social events; 

• Stay home even if you are slightly sick;

• Avoid fitness centers, restaurants, barber shops or other venues where you are in close contact with others.

The health department said its doing everything it can to handle any suspected confirmed cases.

“Symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing,” the department said. “If you believe that you may have been exposed or have symptoms, contact your medical provider before you arrive.”

Other tips to reduce the spread: wash your hands ofter for at least 20 seconds with soap and water (if unavailable, use alcohol-based sanitizer; avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth; avoid close contact with people who are sick; disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
