HILLSDALE, N.J.—The Hillsdale Film Festival Foreign Film Series kicks off its fall season with the Mexican film “Roma,” which will be shown Sept. 30. The schedule for the entire season is as follows. All screenings are at 7 p.m. in the library’s meeting room:
Roma (Mexico, 2018)

The internet sensation of 2018 written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron, “Roma” is a semi-autobiographical take on Cuaron’s upbringing in Mexico City. The film is the story of Cleo, a domestic worker who helps a couple take care of their four children. Complications arise when the husband runs away with his mistress and Cleo finds out that she’s pregnant.
R, runs 135 minutes.
The Concert (France, 2009)
Oct. 28
A man fired as conductor of the Bolshoi Orchestra for hiring Jewish musicians learns that members have been invited to perform in Paris. He gathers his former players and plans to substitute them for the current ones—and hopes that a beautiful virtuoso will accompany them.
PG-13, runs 120 minutes.
The Salesman (Iran, 2016)

With links to Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman,” this film tells the story of a wife who is assaulted and then must deal with the trauma—and of her husband’s attempts to determine the attacker’s identity.

Rabbit-Proof Fence (Australia, 2002)
Dec. 23
Three mixed-race girls are torn from their Aboriginal mother and sent more than 1,000 miles to a camp for domestic workers as part of a government policy to integrate them into white society.
