TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON—Mayor Peter Calamari was happy to share on his Facebook page his impressions of the BStreetBand’s Aug. 13 concert at Memorial Field.

The music — and cheers — belting far into the neighborhoods were thanks to the world’s longest running tribute band, bringing local fans sounds of the Boss, New Jersey’s own Bruce Springsteen, since 1980.

On Aug. 20, after our press start, the township was to celebrate a summer bash at Bethany Community Center, with residents mingling with police, fire, and EMT personnel for food, music, and games.

The BStreetBand, which formed as Backstreets in Asbury Park, notes it’s “still the hardest working tribute band on the circuit, with 175-plus shows per year throughout the country.”

Calamari said on Aug. 15 of the all-ages event, which culminated in fireworks, “It was a pleasure to see many familiar faces that I had not seen for a while due to Covid, as well as new residents to our town. To them, thank you for choosing our town to call your home.”

He said what started as a resident’s idea was brought to fruition with a combined effort of municipal departments “and concluded with a much needed and enjoyable event for all.”

He said “The weather was warm but so were the greetings and conversations as the people of this amazing community embraced one another and celebrated ‘our home town.’”

Calamari said “Concerts in the park are just one of the many wonderful aspects of small-town life. They create priceless opportunities to socialize, rehash old memories with people we often don’t see as much as we should, and to create new memories and build relationships with friends we just haven’t met yet.”

And, he said, “It’s with gratitude we share our love and appreciation for this beautiful community we are so lucky to be a part of.”

The mayor thanked sponsor Valley Bank; resident and concert series proponent Peter Neary; Director of Public Affairs Daisy Velez; Bergen County Parks Department; the township’s departments of public works and recreation; Bergen County Mosquito Control; the Washington Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps; the Washington Township Police Department; Township Theater; Little Chef in Township of Washington; Dog House Saloon & Grill; Bethany Community Center; Kona Ice; “and our dedicated resident volunteers and contributors.”
