CRESSKILL, N.J.—The upcoming fireworks presentation scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 22 in Cresskill will just about wrap up a series of events and activities that have over the last few months commemorated the borough’s Quasquicentennial or 125th Anniversary.
The borough was incorporated back on May 11, 1894. Events celebrating the borough’s anniversary began in May and included the annual Memorial Day Parade, a music and vendor/ barbecue event at American Legion Post #21 in July and most recently a bus tour of the borough’s historical homes on Sept. 14.
Planning for the Quasquicentennial began back in January.
“All in all the events went very well,” Mayor Benedict Romeo said. “And I would like to thank all of the people who participated.”
The mayor said that by the end of the year a time capsule will be placed in the ground, a joint project of the Cresskill Historical Society and Cresskill High School students. A booklet on the borough’s history is also expected to be published by year’s end.
Romeo thanked Marlys Lehmann “for editing the booklet.”
The fireworks will take place at dusk and can be viewed from the Third Street parking lot near the community center and the pool.
Borough officials said that a celebratory cake will be offered at the event and ice cream will be for sale.
The fireworks are being provided by IFM, the International Fireworks Manufacturing Co.
