State Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi is hosting “A Community Roundtable – Gun Laws and School Safety in New Jersey” on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Westwood Community Center.
“Since the awful shooting in Parkland, Florida, I have read thousands of posts from a wide variety of people expressing their thoughts, concerns and arguments for or against certain positions of how to stop future incidents,” Schepisi wrote on Facebook. “The one common theme (regardless of where people stand on these issues), is many people, including me, do not have a comprehensive understanding of how certain laws in New Jersey, including gun laws, school safety laws, mental health laws and the like, work in conjunction with one another.”
To facilitate a discussion regarding action plans and how to protect children, the round table will review current laws and their impact, while polling experts on where to go next, Schepisi said.
The question and answer session will include representatives from the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, the New Jersey School Boards Association, the Bergen County Education Assocation, school safety experts and superintendents.
If you’re interested in attending, doors will open at 6 p.m. Seating will be first-come, first-served, and interested people are encouraged to RSVP on Facebook or by calling Schepisi’s legislative office at (201) 666-0881.
