WESTWOOD, N.J. — Four women artists bring distinct approaches to color, texture and imagery to “Between Forms,” a group exhibition on view through Oct. 23 at Sfumato Gallery, 24 Booker St.
Featuring Brittany Clifford, Marina Chisty, Soo Kim and Oxana Kovalchuk, the exhibition brings their work into conversation while leaving room for each artist’s individual voice. What connects them is an interest in the space between abstraction and representation—where an image may suggest something familiar without resolving into a single, fixed meaning.
Through form, gesture and materials, the artists invite visitors to draw on their own memories and associations. The exhibition encourages viewers to slow down, look closely and consider how their understanding of a work might change with time and attention.
“We want Sfumato Gallery to be a place where people can experience contemporary art in a welcoming and personal way,” said gallery manager Stephanie Moon. “‘Between Forms’ brings together four distinct artistic voices while giving visitors the freedom to discover their own connections within the work.”
The exhibition opened Sept. 18. By presenting these four women together, the gallery offers visitors an opportunity to consider both the connections among their practices and the differences that distinguish them.
Sfumato Gallery describes its mission as making contemporary art accessible while supporting artists and building connections with the surrounding community. “Between Forms” reflects that approach by welcoming personal responses rather than prescribing a single interpretation.
Admission is free, and all artworks in the exhibition are available for purchase.
Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 2 to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Visits are also available by appointment.
