Free Illustrated Lecture Sept. 15: Civil War in the Pacific Northwest

PARK RIDGE, N.J.—The Pascack Historical Society is delighted to welcome historian Dr. Lorraine McConaghy for a special presentation on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.

In an illustrated program, “The Civil War in Washington Territory,” McConaghy will enlighten guests on the little-known experience of the Civil War in the Pacific Northwest. She will weave together the political, social, and military history of this territory, from the Dred Scott decision (the landmark 1857 Supreme Court ruling that held that black Americans—whether free or enslaved—could not claim citizenship) through the beginning of Reconstruction.

Based in Seattle but originally a Pascack Valley native who grew up in Emerson,  McConaghy has devoted her professional life to researching and teaching Pacific Northwest history in a museum setting.

All are welcome to attend her presentation, free of charge. There will be refreshments and a chance to ask questions.

The Pascack Historical Society is at 19 Ridge Ave., Park Ridge. For more information, visit pascackhistoricalsociety.org or write info@pascackhistoricalsociety.org. For updates, follow the Society on Facebook.
