TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON, N.J.—A 2017 graduate of Westwood Regional Jr./Sr. High School who wants to help young artists in strange times is putting together an outdoor show highlighting the work of 20 Garden State artists.
Resident Halle Luttrell, now a senior at The College of New Jersey on track to graduate in spring with a bachelor of fine arts and art history, invites you to a free art show on Saturday, Oct. 3 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Valley Bible Chapel parking lot, next to 53 Ridgewood Road.
The event will be socially distant and face coverings are required.
Luttrell, who plans to embark on her master’s degree in art history this fall—and whose studies this year are all online—said visitors can expect to see paintings, sculptures, photography, prints, and more.
She told Pascack Press last week that she’s organizing and sponsoring the event in part as a response to novelist, poet, playwright, and art collector Gertrude Stein, who said, “The artist’s job is not to succumb to despair but to find an antidote for the emptiness of existence.”
“In perilous times such as these, I felt as though I needed to try to solve the problem for the local artist in their lack of space to safely show work,” Luttrell said.
She also said she wanted to provide an outdoor option for folks in Bergen County to enjoy their surroundings as the weather cools.
“Anyone can stop at their local farmers’ market or go apple picking, but looking at the work of young local artists will enrich the arts and culture in the area and hopefully remind locals of the beauty in life during these hard times,” she said.
