HACKENSACK—Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton announced the arrests of seven individuals as a result of a recent Fugitive Task Force operation. The September operation featured participation from fourteen different agencies and resulted in multiple leads that may bring the task force closer to satisfying outstanding criminal arrest warrants, in addition to the seven arrests.
The Fugitive Task Force was dispatched into the community early on the morning of Thursday Sept. 26, during which time seven individuals were arrested for failing to appear in Bergen County Superior Court for various offenses.
All arrestees were transported to the Bergen County Jail pending court appearances. The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Participants in the September Bergen County Fugitive Task Force Operation included: Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and police departments of Midland Park, Demarest, South Hackensack, Wyckoff, Little Ferry, Mahwah, River Vale, Park Ridge, Closter, Hillsdale, Glen Rock, and Elmwood Park.
Cureton said, “I would like to thank the BCSO personnel and all the participating departments who helped make our third operation a success. Out of all the attempts, multiple arrests were made and new leads were gathered that will significantly help the task force next time it convenes.”
The Bergen County Fugitive Task Force was launched in June under the direction of Cureton in partnership with the Bergen County Chiefs Association.
The task force is charged with locating and arresting individuals who have outstanding criminal warrants and are fugitives from justice from Bergen County Superior Court.
The task force’s mission is not only to locate fugitives from justice, but also to develop further intelligence regarding those who are evading Bergen County Superior Court Criminal Division.
