GO LOCAL: Fire Department’s summer concert features B-Street Band, fire trucks

TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON—The Township of Washington Fire Department excitedly invites you to the first in what it hopes will catch on as a weekly summer concert series, Friday, Aug. 25 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at Memorial Field. The B-Street Band will perform three sets at the free show, which is sponsored by Oritani Bank.

Barbecued food will be available for purchase. Bring your own chairs, blankets and beverages, and take advantage of shopping downtown.

Mike Agnello, firefighter and an honorary chief of the volunteer department, told the Pascack Press he expects 1,000 to 1,500 people to attend.

“We’re leaving space on the field for people to dance, get to know their neighbors, meet the fire department, and just have a great party,” he said.

“We’ll have fire department equipment out so everybody can see what we do. This is perfect for families,” he added.

Agnello explained at a Township Council meeting recently that it was also the department’s plan to help revitalize the downtown area and give people more of a reason to play and spend here.

He said that if the party is a hit, as organizers expect, additional sponsors would want to get in on the fun and help fill out the series next year.

“Then we’d get into a system like Westwood and Ridgewood and have something every week in the summer. Those are great events,” Agnello said.

All ages are welcome. Parking will be available at the Bethany Church Community Center lot, formerly the YJCC.
