EMERSON—Making-It-Home, an organization created by the Bergen Volunteer Center, has undertaken volunteering efforts to furnish the new supportive homes that will host 14 veterans in Emerson, on the property of Emerson’s American Legion Post.
The housing project, which was completed in conjunction with the Bergen County Housing Authority and American Legion Post 269, has been constructed, and low-income veteran residents are expected to move in within the near future to maintain independent and self-sufficient lives thanks to the efforts made to provide housing for them.
Thanks to the support of individuals, moving companies, professional organizers, realtors, and others, the apartments will soon be furnished. Prior to this, the veterans would have unfortunately not had any furniture supplied to them, and on limited incomes, many have little to no ability to purchase furniture on their own.
Making-It-Home still seeks further sponsorship to help with the costs that come with furnishing 14 homes to make them comfortable for the group of veterans that will be moving out of their emergency shelters and into the community.
Those who choose to support this charitable furnishing project will be specially recognized alongside public officials, business leaders, residents, and members of the media for their contributions in a ribbon-cutting ceremony which will commence following the installation of furniture.
Those who choose to sponsor the project will be able to furnish these homes in various ways. For a $5,000 contribution, headliners will receive recognition at the ribbon cutting event, in press releases and online, invites to the Bergen Volunteer Center Annual Gala, and recognition in the Bergen Volunteer Center Annual Report.
For civic leaders wishing to fundraise, $2,000 completely furnishes a veteran’s apartment. $1,650 provides mattresses, headboards, and bed frames for three veterans. $1,400 provides refurbished flat screen televisions for 14 veterans, and, finally, $1,000 provides window blinds for four veterans. Civic leaders who fundraise will also receive special recognition for their contributions.
