Paramus man had marijuana in jar 

Sgt. Liz Zimmerman was on patrol April 17 at 8:15 p.m. when she stopped a vehicle on Pascack Road for having a headlight out. 

Zimmerman contacted the driver, 55, from Paramus. While speaking with him, she saw a jar in plain view inside the passenger-side front door that appeared to have marijuana residue in it. The driver turned it over to Zimmerman, claiming it was his friend’s.

Zimmerman conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, recovering a greenish brown vegetative substance believed to be marijuana that had been rolled up in tinfoil.

The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transferred to headquarters where he was proceed, charged and released pending a court appearance. He also was issued a motor vehicle summons for having a headlight out. 

Recognizable to officers, driver owed $1,500 

Sgt. Liz Zimmerman, on patrol driving north on Lake Drive on April 18 at 11:49 p.m., recognized a male she was familiar with walking away from a white, idling sport utility vehicle on Lake Drive.

Zimmerman attempted to make contact with the man. She contacted Patrolman Corey Rooney, who was also patrolling, providing a description of the man, who was believed to be the subject of a $1,578 traffic warrant out of Hillsdale Municipal Court. 

Rooney soon spotted a white Range Rover on Parkview Drive and a driver that matched the description. He conducted a motor vehicle stop on Pascack Road, stopping the vehicle for speeding (41 mph) and an equipment violation. 

The driver, 32, from Suffern, N.Y, initially refused to turn his driver’s license over to Rooney. 

Zimmerman arrived on the scene, and the man was advised he was the subject an active warrant and was placed under arrest. 

He was transported to police headquarters and issued traffic summonses for driving while suspended, careless driving, and unclear license plate. 

Unable to post bail, he was released pending a new court date. No further local action was taken.

Lodi man arrested over marijuana on Hillsdale Ave. stop

Sgt. Michael Camporeale was on patrol westbound on Hillsdale Avenue behind a vehicle with New York registration and an equipment violation on April 18 at 4:19 p.m.

Camporeale initiated a motor vehicle stop on Hillsdale Avenue, and greeted the driver, 27, from Lodi.  As the driver provided his credentials, Camporeale detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. He radioed for backup and asked the driver to step out of the car. The driver stated he had smoked the previous day but that there was nothing illegal in the car.

Nevertheless, the driver was informed a probable cause search would be conducted; he was given an opportunity to surrender any controlled dangerous substances, and the driver said there was a small bag of marijuana in the center console. A search of the vehicle yielded the bag. 

The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana under 50 grams and taken to police headquarters, where he was processed, given a verbal warning for the equipment violation, and released pending a municipal court date. 

‘Neglectful’ father turned over to sheriff’s dept.

Sgt. Michael Camporeale was on patrol on Hillsdale Avenue on April 18 at 7 p.m. when he witnessed a vehicle with an inoperable taillight. 

A records check through the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles revealed a National Crime Information Center active warrant for neglect of child care out issued by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. 

A motor vehicle stop was initiated on Hillsdale Avenue. The driver, 49, from Cresskill, was determined to be the vehicle’s registered owner and the subject of the warrant. Asked to step out of the vehicle, he was placed under arrest. He was released to the 

Bergen County Sheriff’s Department in good health to be taken to Bergen County Jail.
