Two days before the nation would honor all American veterans in the 99th Veterans Day, the police on Nov. 9 honored several Korean War veterans who live in the borough and are members of American Legion Post 162 Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake, and Old Tappan.

Police Chief Robert Francaviglia and Capt. Sean Smith visited the men’s homes and presented them with a plaque as a token of gratitude from the Hillsdale Police Department.

The veterans include Rich Curran, Robert Abbadie, George DeRosa, Gerard Carty, Frank D. Aquila, George Kritzler, Fred Grimaldi, Robert J. Meyer, and Robert Thyne.

Joining Francaviglia and Smith were Mayor John Ruocco and Councilman Zoltan Horvath.

Dozens of “likes” have punctuated the photos, and the comments are what one might pleasantly expect.

Wade Schwarz Sr. writes, “Awesome job guys!! Giving the Veteran the respect they deserve!”

Theresa Cooley Schwarz agrees: “Outstanding Hillsdale PD.”

Mary Ann Nugent McDevitt says, “Great job! To all! And Thank you for your service!”

Scott McDowell adds his thumbs up: “This is beyond awesome,” as does Michael DeFilippo: “Awesome job guys.”
