MONTVALE, N.J.—Fire crews rushed to a smoke-filled garage on Waverly Place Thursday evening, June 26, after a propane tank began venting inside—but no fire ever broke out, officials said.

Montvale emergency responders arrived to find heavy smoke in a detached three-car garage. The source: a propane tank releasing pressure due to heat, creating a loud hissing sound.

The smoke’s origin remains under investigation, but the incident never escalated. No injuries were reported.

Mutual aid came from Park Ridge, Woodcliff Lake, and Pearl River. Crews cleared the scene in under an hour.
