HACKENSACK—Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Board of Chosen Freeholders have announced that the Bergen County Division of Community Development will be hosting the 2019 Homebuyer Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Conference Center at Two Bergen County Plaza (next to the County Court House) in Hackensack. The Expo will feature free resources and workshops for residents in the market to buy a new home.
“The Homebuyer Expo is held every year to provide a one stop source of information and resources for anyone looking to purchase a new home in Bergen County,” said County Executive Tedesco. “It is an especially helpful event for first time homebuyers and low and moderate income families looking to learn the ins-and-outs of the home buying process and the services available to them.”
The event will showcase experienced professionals who can provide valuable information to those who are thinking about or ready to begin the process of buying a home.
“Buying a home for the first time can be intimidating and overwhelming. So much so, that it deters some people from taking advantage of a tremendous opportunity,” said Freeholder Chairwoman Germaine Ortiz. “This Homebuyer Expo has all the tools you’ll need to make a smooth transition into home ownership.”
In attendance will be realtors, bankers, mortgage companies, credit counselors, home inspectors and other experts who are ready to answer questions ranging from how to work with realtors to how to obtain a mortgage. Hands-on, live workshops (“The ABC’s of Buying a Home” and “Credit and Your New Home Purchase”) that deal with the various stages of buying a home will also be available for attendees.
In addition, representatives from the Bergen County Division of Community Development Homeownership Center will be on hand to discuss government programs that can provide financing assistance with new home down payments and mortgages for those eligible as well as interest-free deferred payment home improvements loans for homeowner occupants who qualify.
This event, which is free to all, is presented by the Bergen County Division of Community Development in conjunction with banking sponsorship partners NVE Bank, TD Bank, Bogota Savings Bank, Lakeland Bank, Atlantic Stewardship Bank, OritaniBank Charitable Foundation, Spencer Savings Bank and Cardinal Financial Company. Community support is provided through the Fair Housing Council of Northern, NJ and Greater Bergen County Community Action.
