Hudson River Sails Aboard State’s Tall Ship Offered

The AJ Meerwald, New Jersey’s official tall ship (pictured), is setting sail this July, in partnership with the Tenafly Nature Center.

The Tenafly Nature Center and the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions have partnered to co-sponsor a series of Hudson River sails aboard the AJ Meerwald, New Jersey’s official tall ship. Visit www.tenaflync.org for more details.

Children’s Sail

Thursday, July 11 at 10 a.m.
Thursday, July 11 at  2 p.m. 
Friday, July 12 at 1 p.m.
Sunday, July 14 at 10 a.m.

This 2-3 hour round-trip sail offers kids aged 4-12, and their parents, a hands-on learning experience. A TNC Environmental Educator will introduce kids and adults to Hudson River fish, crabs and other creatures. The sail departs from the Alpine Boat Basin. Cost is $26 per child and $57 per adult.

Tavern night on the River 

Friday, July 12 at 6 p.m.

Join Palisades Interstate Park historian and Kearney House curator Eric Nelsen and Thaddeus MacGregor as they introduce guests to the history of the area. Bring a picnic dinner and relax on this once-a-year scenic trip. This three-hour trip will cost $70 per person.

Rock ‘n’ River Sail

Saturday, July 13 at 10 a.m.

Learn about the geology of the Palisades from Dr. George Harlow, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the American Museum of Natural History, followed by a discussion about the Hudson River watershed with Hackensack Riverkeeper staff. Three-hour trip, $55 per person.

Brewery on the Boat

Saturday, July 13 at 5:30 p.m.

Enjoy a tasting of craft beers from local craft brewery, Brix City. Brix City Brewing is dedicated to bold styled beers that showcase intense flavor profiles and the highest quality ingredients. This three-hour trip costs $75 per person. 

Important information for sailors

• Each trip is limited to 40 people. Fees must be pre-paid; no refunds.

• All trips depart and return to the Alpine Boat Basin (PIP Exit 2). Weekend sail fees do not include $5 parking fee.

• Children must be accompanied by an adult.

•Check-in at the dock gate. Check TNC’s website to confirm dates.

• Restrooms available dockside only.

• Sail is held rain or shine; proceed to the Alpine Boat Basin and wear rain gear. In severe weather, the captain may cancel the sail and issue vouchers at the dock.

• Bring your own food and beverages (beer/wine OK, but no liquor). Carry in, carry out.

• Register early—trips fill quickly!
