Inaugural Walk Will Remember Those Lost To Addiction

WESTWOOD, N.J.—Alumni In Recovery’s Parent Program will be hosting its first-ever A Walk to Remember, a walk dedicated to honoring lives lost to the disease of addiction.

The event is set for Sunday, Oct 27 at 10 a.m. (rain date Nov. 3) at Westvale and Pascack Brook County Park, Westwood. Registration is ongoing through Sept. 30 online at AinRWalk.org.

The walk will be held in scattered times. Officially speaking, the walk will begin at 10 a.m. and continue on until 1 p.m. This means that anyone who is unable to get to the walk by the starting time will still be able to walk and contribute at any point. The event is not a 5K walk or run; rather, participants will simply walk along the paths running from Westvale Park through to Pascack Brook County Park. There will be beverages as well as some local food truck businesses.

“All attendees will have the opportunity to stroll through both parks, relax and eat some food, and learn more about the organization,” event organizers said. “Our main goal is to honor the lives lost.”

Alumni In Recovery (AinR) is a non-profit organization composed of dedicated young adults who are now living in recovery and abstinent from all drugs and alcohol. This service-based volunteer program started in Bergen County and offers a service to schools and communities.

AinR’s mission is to provide a safe and reliable program while providing awareness, hope, and resources for the local communities. The group aims to end the stigma surrounding the disease of addiction by sharing members’ stories with students and their parents at local middle and high schools. Members volunteer their time to speak openly about their struggles with addiction and how they overcame them.
