Knights Honor Four For Significant Contributions

TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON, N.J.—Knights of Columbus Mother Seton Council #5427, at 79 Pascack Road, held its 16th annual Testimonial Dinner on April 6, honoring four individuals who have made significant contributions to the community.

They are Sean Dunn, of WT Recreation Programs; Roberta Hanlon, member of the Board of Education; Peggy Ann Mendler, church and community activities; and Tom Sears, WTFD and veterans and community activities.

The Dinner Ad Journal raised $4,000, which will be distributed to charities the honorees selected: Special Olympics New Jersey, Tomorrow’s Children, Villa Marie Claire Hospice, and St. Athanasio’s Church.

Attending the dinner to present recognitions were representatives government, the Knights of Columbus, and Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

Government officials were Catherine Best, representing Rep. Josh Gottheimer; State Sen. Gerald Cardinale; State Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi; State Assemblyman Robert Auth; County Undersheriff Dave Borzatta; Mayor Peter Calamari; Council President Michael DeSena; and Council Vice President Steven Cascio. 

Knights of Columbus representatives were State Deputy Robert Hatler and Grand Knight Fran Sullivan. 

Rev. Stephen Cinque, pastor and council chaplain; Rev. Ray Rodrigue; and Deacon Bob Glasner represented Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut, by Fr. Michael J. McGivney. It is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization with nearly 1.9 million members worldwide. It is also one of the most active charitable organizations in the United States. 

In 2018, the Knights  raised more than $4.4 million for Christian and other religious minority refugees in the Middle East. 

The Knights also set new records in fiscal year 2018 for charitable giving with donations of $185 million and 75 million hours of service to charitable causes. Mother Seton Council contributed $63,200.
