Labor Day Festivities An Annual Closter Tradition

A scene for Labor Day weekend 2017 in Closter: The Closter Fire Department turned on its water pump for the pleasure of kids not quite ready to end their summer bliss.

CLOSTER, N.J.—Closter’s Labor Day Tradition was born in 1960 when the late Coach George Potterton organized the first end-of-summer party for friends and neighbors, children and adults, to get together.

The celebration continues annually with new generations of families and old-timers mingling, reminiscing and taking in a weekend of fun activities.

Mayor John Glidden recently announced a schedule of events for Saturday, Sept. 1 through Monday, Sept. 3, taking place at Veterans’ Memorial Field.

The rain date for activities is Sept. 7-8. Visit www.closternj.us for updates.
